In my last blog post, I explained how suspension based physical therapy has helped me and others with dysautonomia. Today I am excited to tell you about another hidden gem. This one is called GYROTONIC®.
Originally created in the 1980s for dancers, the Gyrotonic Expansion System is a holistic movement method that combines elements of yoga, tai chi, gymnastics and swimming. It focuses on fluid, circular movements performed on intelligently designed equipment.
If you have dysautonomia, here are some ways Gyrotonic exercise can help:
1. Gentle Movement: The low-impact, fluid movements support joint mobility and circulation without overtaxing the cardiovascular system, making them suitable for individuals with dysautonomia.
2. Better Flexibility: The circular, expansive movements increase flexibility and joint range of motion, which may alleviate muscle tension and enhance overall movement efficiency.
3. Mind-Body Connection: The breath awareness and mindfulness promote relaxation and stress reduction, which can be beneficial for managing symptoms such as anxiety and palpitations associated with dysautonomia.
If you'd like to experience all that Gyrotonic can offer, please contact me at Activcore in Johns Creek, Georgia to schedule a consultation.
