Treating Dysautonomia with Hypopressives

In my last two blog posts, I explained how specialized physical therapy techniques like Redcord suspension exercise and GYROTONIC® have helped me and others with dysautonomia. Today I am highlighting another breakthrough movement system available at Activcore. This one is called Hypopressives.

Hypopressive means low pressure. This technique introduces exercises that reduce the pressure in your core (i.e., the intra-abdominal pressure).

Also known as Low Pressure Fitness (LPF), hypopressives consist of a series of breathing and mindful movement patterns that gently strengthen our deepest core muscles. These are the muscles that create the foundation for upright posture and joint stability. They also help us control normal bodily processes and function of our bladder, bowel and sexual health. Oftentimes, these inner muscles can be affected from an injury, surgery, pregnancy, illness or sedentary lifestyle.

If you have dysautonomia, here are 3 ways hypopressives can help:

- Improved Respiratory Function: Hypopressives incorporate a specific breathing technique aimed at reducing intra-abdominal pressure while engaging the core muscles. Individuals with dysautonomia can benefit from improved respiratory function associated with this.

- Stress Reduction: Hypopressives emphasize mindful movements and relaxation techniques to help individuals manage stress and anxiety associated with dysautonomia, thereby reducing the risk of symptom exacerbation.

- Core Muscle Activation: Hypopressives target the deep core muscles to provide better support of the spine and pelvis. These exercises help individuals with dysautonomia, particularly those experiencing symptoms related to postural instability.
